Core Beliefs and Values:
As Christian counselors we are committed to being honest and open about our beliefs and values. The Word of God and work of the Holy Spirit is the foundation for our personal lives and the care we offer. We believe that hiding our beliefs and trying to do value-free counseling is both unwise and impossible. Therefore, we want you to know what beliefs and values are important to us.
Christian counseling, as differing from secular counseling, focuses on caring for the spiritual needs through the redemptive work of Christ. We believe that counseling without Jesus factor is as effective as applying a band-aid over a bacteria-infested wound. Many spiritual problems result from either not understanding Biblical Truth, from sinful behavior, or spiritual abuse. We believe that individuals are created in the image of God and can only feel complete and fulfilled through a relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. Our main goal in counseling, as in Christian living, is to move toward greater spiritual and emotional health by becoming more like Jesus.
We recognize that personal problems can come from various sources: spiritual bondage, health difficulties, physiology social-environmental influence and psychological pressure. We are committed to honoring the reality of each of these sources and the specific help that each area needs. We are not limited to psychological techniques, nor can we rely on our own human effort and wisdom. Where we cannot personally provide care, we will direct to sources who specialize in these areas.
We believe that God is the real authority in counseling and He gives us the resources for deep change in every area of need. Studying the teachings and following the life of Christ as He lived in the Gospels is the foundation and pattern we embrace when caring for the needs of our clients. This means learning what God’s heart is for us personally, observing examples of other people’s problems, praying about the client’s difficulties, and looking to the authority of the Bible for guidance.
In this way we seek to encourage clients to build a dependency upon God. The client can find forgiveness for the past, strength and comfort for the present, and hope for the future by trusting the Lord to meet and heal emotional wounds. We try to reflect the character of Jesus Christ and to love our clients as Jesus does. Our commitment is not to force our beliefs on any client, but to strongly urge them to develop a relationship with the only true Healer of the body, soul, and spirit, Jesus Christ.
